HCBS Waiver Conference 2005 - Presentations

Held in May 2005 this national conference was designed to meet the unique training needs of waiver program operators. This year’s conference, titled "The Sun Shines Brighter at Home," offered substantive opportunities to learn about the national initiatives, policy directions and grant programs that shape the current environment. Translating Evidence-based Dementia Caregiver Interventions to Social Service Agencies

Nine presentations on ways to translate research and knowledge into improved caregiving are given here. They were first presented at a meeting hosted by the Healthy Aging Research Network in November 2008. Successful models and programs, such as RE-AIM, Alabama REACH, Savvy Caregiver Project, NYU Caregiver Intervention, and Environmental Skill-Building Program are featured. Other presentations deal with funding and policies.

Housing Advanced Strategies Teleconference: April 22, 2005

The April 2005 Advanced Strategies Subgroup call hosted Leonard Sandler, law professor from the University of Iowa. These materials are from the national conference sponsored by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and held in Nashville on May 2-3, 2002. Driving HCBS Innovation through Data and Metrics

Presented at the 27th National Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Conference, this presentation discussed HCBS beginnings and momentum, including advocacy and costs, HCBS waivers, Aging and Disability Resource Centers (ADRCs), and Money Follows the Person (MFP), data and metrics to build community-based services, and using metrics to move forward.

Using Propensity Score Matching Techniques to Assess Medicare/Medicaid Service Use

This poster describes the use of a propensity score matching methodology to identify comparison groups among Medicare-Medicaid beneficiaries who received Medicaid-paid LTSS via HCBS waivers versus those who did not receive LTSS. This matching technique was used to establish comparable treatment/control pairs for subsequent analysis of cross-payer effects of providing Medicaid-paid LTSS on Medicare acute care resource use, and could be used more generally to strengthen policy analyses.

Housing in America – The Baby Boomers Turn 65

The ULI published an article on the opportunities and challenges that the baby boomers has created for the U.S. housing industry. The challenge is to meet the diverse lifestyle needs of people in their senior years. Those who are moving desire urban locations where they can be close to many services such as restaurants, health care, and public transportation. The commonality across all aging baby boomers, however, is that they have an aversion to current and future institutional living.
