Long-Term Work Activity & Use of Employment Supports Among New Supplemental Security Income Recipients

This article, published in the Social Security Bulletin, presents long-term cumulative statistics on the extent to which individuals who began receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) disability payments from 1996 through 2006 found work and used SSI work incentives.The article also provides analysis on initiatives affecting SSI, including the Ticket to Work program and the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996.

The guide outlines best practices for recruitment, retention, promotion, and provision of accommodations for employees with disabilities. The guide also includes an explanation of the legal framework of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

Improving Employment Outcomes for People with Psychiatric Disorders and Other Disabilities

To answer questions on what services and barriers people with psychiatric disorders face, the authors conducted two targeted literature reviews: (1) employment programs and outcomes for people with psychiatric disorders; and (2) employment programs for people with other disabilities. The authors also examined literature and policy documents that outlined funding options for employment services for people with psychiatric disorders and other disabilities.

A Roadmap to Success: Hiring, Retaining and Including People with Disabilities: Online Course

The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has developed an online course which provide federal employees with basic information and resources to successfully hire, retain, and advance employees with disabilities. The course is available to agencies at no cost on HR University and the training should be considered required for human resources personnel and hiring managers.
