Joint NASDDDS-NASUAD Letter to CMS on Waiver Quality Requirements
On January 19, 2010, the National Association of States United for Aging and Disabilities (NASUAD) and the National Association of State Directors of Developmental Disabilities Services (NASDDDS) jointly transmitted a letter to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) expressing concern about evolving CMS requirements for Section 1915(c) Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Waiver quality improvement strategies. Key areas highlighted in the letter include:
- Performance Measures and Compliance
- Remediation at the Individual Level
- Data Collection and State Resources
NASDDDS and NASUAD have requested that CMS suspend further work on HCBS waiver quality improvement strategies until NASDDDS and NASUAD and CMS have had the opportunity to develop expectations that are time and resource efficient while producing the outcomes all parties desire for waiver programs. If you have questions, suggestions or concerns, please feel free to contact either Martha Roherty at 202/898/2578 or mroherty@nasuad.org or Mike Cheek at 202/898/2578 or mcheek@nasuad.org.
