NASUAD To Launch Home and Community-Based Services Waiver Managers' Listserv

November 2, 2010

In response to member requests, the National Association of States United for Aging and Disabilities (NASUAD), the organization officially recognized as representing the 56 state units on aging, is in the process of developing a Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Waiver Manager listserv.  The listserv will be intended for state staff responsible for HCBS waivers targeted to elders, persons with physical disabilities and persons with traumatic brain injury.

As you may know the National Association of State Directors of Developmental Disabilities Services (NASDDDS) already operates a listserv for intellectual/developmental disabilities and autism waiver managers.  If your agency operates a waiver(s) targeted to persons with intellectual disabilities or persons with autism, and are not participating in the NASDDDS listserv, NASUAD recommends that you contact the state DD directors (www.nasddds.org) to gain access.

NASUAD’s listserv and NASUAD staff support will provider waiver managers with:

  • A quick, easy way to pose questions to peers in other states and receive responses and/or copies of valuable material;
  • Compilations of state responses developed by NASUAD staff;
  • Quarterly teleconferences on waiver design, implementation and operational issues; and
  • Technical briefs developed by NASUAD staff on questions and issues are important to a significant number of waiver managers.

NASUAD also regularly will survey participants on listserv utility to improve functionality.  In the coming week, NASUAD staff will contact elders, persons with physical disabilities and persons with traumatic brain injury waiver managers to assess their interest.   If you have suggestions for the listserv effort, please contact Mike Cheek, Senior Director for State Services, at mcheek@nasuad.org
