HHS Announces New Grants and Programs

On Monday, September 27, 2010, Kathleen Sebelius, Health and Human Services Secretary, announced $68 million in new grants and programs from the Affordable Care Act to help seniors, people with disabilities, and caregivers navigate their health and long-term care options. The grants will be given to states, territories, tribal and community based organizations which support seniors, family caregivers, and people with disabilities.
The grants will be administered collaboratively by the Administration on Aging (AoA) and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The awards were as follows: Medicare Outreach and Assistance in Low Income Programs and Prevention Grants to 50 states and 125 tribal organizations, ADRC Options Counseling Grants to 20 states, ADRC Nursing Home Transition through Money Follows the Person Grants to 24 states, and Evidence Based Care Transition Grants to 16 states.
